The Wymering School

The Wymering School is a special school which provides 66 places for children in the age range 9-16 with a neurodiverse profile where there are significant social communication and interaction difficulties, associated speech, language and communication difficulties and high levels of anxiety and / or associated challenging and distressed behaviour.

Who is able to attend our school?

Children placed at the school will:

  • Have an Education, Health and Care Plan. In exceptional circumstances a child may be placed at the school whilst a statutory Education, Health and Care Needs Assessment is being completed.
  • Be in the age range 9-16 years: National Curriculum years 5 to 11.
  • Have significant social communication and interaction difficulties as their primary area of need (in particular, autism spectrum conditions / neurodiverse profile).
  • Have significant additional secondary needs including a range of social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviour.
  • Have significant special educational needs which means that access to the national curriculum is difficult without significant specialist support.
  • Have the potential to achieve at least Entry Level qualifications by the end of Year 11.
