Portsmouth leads the way by launching new post-16 education and employment guide for young people with SEND

The front cover of the What Next? Guide. Education and employment opportunities post -16A new post-16 education and employment guide has launched to support young people with SEND who are looking at their options after school.

What next? has been created in partnership with the City of Portsmouth College and HSDC, alongside Solent LEP, Portsmouth City Council and the Solent Careers Hub, designed to present all the options for young people from post-16 through to employment.

This easy-to-understand guide provides a checklist of what you need to know and do before applying, detailing the courses available at local colleges and the application process. It covers routes into work including supported internships.

Liz Kemp, Head of Inclusion at Portsmouth City Council said: “This new guide will support young people who are looking at their options and taking their first steps after school. The guide will give parents and carers the information they need to best support their young person throughout their journey towards employment.

“If you need further advice and guidance, the colleges who feature in this guide will welcome contact and answer any questions you may have. You can also review the education section of preparing for adulthood on the Portsmouth SEND Local Offer website to learn more about what services are available to support this next step.”
