About our school
Mary Rose Academy is a designated special school which caters for children between 2 and 19 years of age who have profound and multiple learning difficulties, or severe and complex needs, and who may also have Autism. Children may have a complexity of special educational needs including physical disabilities, complex medical conditions and varying degrees of sensory impairment.Details of the school’s SEN Information Report can be found at:
Who is able to attend our school?
Children placed at the school will:
• Have a Statement of Special Educational Needs or an Education Health and Care Plan. In exceptional circumstances a child may be placed at the school on an assessment basis, whilst a statutory assessment is being completed. (See SEN Code of Practice Paras 8:23- 8:28)
• Be in the age range of 3-19 years, nursery age and curriculum years R to 14
• Show attainment with the National Curriculum that is well outside the range within which most children are expected to work. The children may be working at pre – National Curriculum levels or within the lower levels of the curriculum throughout their schooling
• Show severe delays in key areas of development such as self-help skills, language and communication skills and general cognitive development
• Be highly dependent upon adult support for access to the curriculum and progress in learning via structured and individualised programmes
In addition children placed at the school may:
• Have associated physical and/or sensory disabilities
• Have associated health/medical needs
• Have characteristics associated with autistic spectrum disorders
• Present with severe and challenging behaviour associated with their severe learning difficulties
