New leaflet launched to support families in finding accessible activity providers

Portsmouth SEND Local Offer, in collaboration with Brochure Connect, has launched a new leaflet designed to help children, young people, and families with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) discover accessible activities throughout the city.

Developed in partnership with local organisations, the leaflet highlights a wide range of inclusive opportunities available for individuals with SEND up to the age of 25. It aims to make it easier for families to identify and access suitable activities within their community. A spokesperson at Portsmouth City Council said:

“Families of children and young people with SEND often face barriers when trying to access community activities. This new initiative provides a valuable resource to help parents and carers find inclusive opportunities close to home.

“The leaflet, along with the accompanying online guide, offers direct links to providers and contact details for further information.”

As part of the initiative, 5,000 copies of the leaflet will be distributed across retail and leisure venues throughout Portsmouth, ensuring wide accessibility and community reach.

Alongside the launch of a leaflet, Portsmouth SEND Local Offer have refreshed their branding using co-production.

Co-production is used to create and develop products and services, utilising the lived experiences of people.

Portsmouth SEND Local Offer worked with members of the community to update illustrations from the brand to ensure they were inclusive. This included adding a character with a sunflower lanyard and removing elements of the illustrations that community group members said didn’t represent them.
