Volunteering and Work Experience

Volunteering and work experience can be excellent first steps into employment for young people with special educational needs and disabilities. It can give a real taste of the world of work and allow you to trial particular roles before committing to a paid job.

It can also be a really good way of gaining valuable work based skills whilst completing education or studying. You can find out more about work based study on our internships and apprenticeships page.

Local opportunities for volunteering include Inter Active  which is run by Enable Ability.  Inter Active is a Social Enterprise in Portsmouth based at the Landport Community Centre in the heart of the city. It offers FREE work experience programmes for young people with a mild to moderate learning or physical disability or additional need. It is designed to help them find  meaningful employment at the end of their respective programme, including up to three months support in the workplace.

Other volunteering opportunities in Portsmouth can be found through The Hive.
