Being able to travel out and about is a big part of becoming an adult. A young person may be able to do this on their own, or they may need to have someone with them. In Portsmouth we have services and support to help young people travel around the city safely.

Independent travel training
If you are in school or college you can speak to your tutor and ask for some travel help.
If you attend Portsmouth City College you can ask them about travel training which they offer to their students.
During the summer holidays you can also attend travel training run by Enable Ability.

Disabled persons bus pass
If you have a disability or need, you may be able to get a disabled persons bus pass. This is a pass which lets you travel for free at any time of the day on a bus.
There is a criteria (set of rules you have to meet) to get a disabled person’s bus pass in Portsmouth. You will have to show proof of your disability when you apply.

School Travel Assistance

In some circumstances, carers can apply for a companion pass. There is criteria which you must meet to apply for this pass which can be found on the Portsmouth City council website.

If you are travelling with a child or young person with a special educational need or disability, airports can offer a range of passenger assistance services.
