Education Settings in Portsmouth

In Portsmouth City we have many different education settings that you can consider for your child or young persons education.  This page aims to explain the different types and provide a list of the current settings that are available.

Choosing an education setting is an important decision which will impact on your child/ young person and your whole family, so it is worth spending time looking at the options available. Understandably, concerns are even greater if a child/young person has special educational needs (SEN).

FAQ:
How do I apply for a place at college?
Once you have chosen a course you will need to apply. You can do this online on the colleges own website or you can fill in a paper form. When you apply you will be asked if you have any special educational needs or disabilities, and whether or not you have an education health and care plan ( EHCP). If you have an EHCP Portsmouth City Council Special Educational Needs ( SEN) team will send a copy of your EHC plan to the college you have applied for. The college may invite you for a meeting to discuss your support needs and how they could be met.
Colleges have their own deadlines (cut off dates) for applying to them – make sure you check what these are.

When will I find out if I have a college place?
Young People with Education Health and Care plans will find out which college they will be going to by the 31st of March in the year that they start. Students who don’t have an EHCP will get their offers before August of the year they start. Most students will be invited to enrolment days in August or September.
