Inclusion Conference 2019
On the 10th October 2019, Portsmouth City Council Inclusion service held their annual Inclusion conference. Once again we were fortunate to welcome two inspirational keynote speakers – Adam Boddison (Chief executive of the National Association of SEN) and Gareth Morewood (Educational Adviser to Studio 3).
The theme of the 2019 conference was “Leading an Inclusive school: practical ideas for leaders of all levels within high performing and inclusive schools.” It was attended by over 130 SEND professionals who learned about SEND and the new OFSTED framework, low arousal approaches in schools and understanding stress in the classroom.
In addition to this, there were a range of workshops covering themes such as leading an inclusive school, overcoming barriers to inclusion and the challenges of working with children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.
The conference was also a time of celebration as SEND professionals from schools, the LA and health were presented with Portsmouth Parent Voice Parent Carer appreciation awards. Winners of the awards were nominated by local parent carers for the positive impacts they have had on their child or young person’s lives.
Feedback from the day was really positive and attendees said they would be taking some of the learning from the day back to their classrooms and SEND roles.
